Certificate for a better future
Sustainable development and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as introduced by the United Nations in 2016 are strategic topics recognized by the signatory countries as well as their respective legislators and industries.
Due to the often massive influences of mining on the environment and society, the mining industry has a crucial role to play in achieving the SDGs. Furthermore, increasing demand for raw materials of the industry pose significant challenges for the provision of sustainable supply chains.
In order to support the achievement of the SDGs, the CERA certification system was introduced for the provision and identification of sustainable raw material supply chains. It aims to provide means for sustainable production practices as well as traceability of sustainably sourced materials.
CERA encompasses all raw materials, all operation sizes, mining and processing techniques as well as all countries throughout the entire value chain.
CERA takes into account the specific conditions of every raw material through the entire value chain by creating individual implementation details.
TRANSPARENCY & TRUSTWORTHINESS
CERA’s governance body has a Not-for-profit structure and auditing processes as well as consultancy work within the CERA certification system are carried out by independent third parties.
CERA guarantees maximum credibility through the independence of its developing consortium and public consultations during the development phase.
CERA guarantees the traceability of materials by using an appropriate combination of different traceability methods such as distributed ledger technology and/or analytical fingerprint and/or tracer.
PARTICIPATION & CONTRIBUTION
Interests and recommendations of stakeholders are taken into account to ensure a comprehensive and well-balanced set of standards criteria.
CERA offers every actor in the supply chain a suitable option.
CERA is developed by an interdisciplinary team and with the support of leading experts in sustainability and certification.
COMPREHENSIVENESS & RECOGNITION
CERA aims to integrate and accept established standards, allowing for synergies and harmonisation within the existing standards world and reduced workload for organisations aiming for certification.
